Plans for 173 new homes in Kilkeel have been submitted.
Kilkeel River Properties Ltd has applied for full planning permission from Newry, Mourne and Down District Council to build a residential development on lands opposite numbers 21-43 Newcastle Road including numbers 1 to 10 in Riverview.
In the plans, submitted to Planning Service earlier this month, the company proposes to build 21 detached, 120 semi-detached homes and 32 apartments on the 11.3 hectare (almost 30 acre) site.
A pre-application public consultation report, submitted with the plans, shows the applicant held a pre-application process consultation event in Kilkeel back in March this year.
In a letter, the planning agent O’Callaghan Planning, said the event was “relatively informal”.
“Detailed drawings of the proposal could be seen, projected on the large screen at the event, along with a number of hard copies on a display. There were no attendees at the event and no contact was made with this office regarding this application. Therefore, it can be assumed that there are no concerns or objections relating to this development.”
Plans for a similar proposal were submitted back in 2005 however that permission has since lapsed.
The housing development is set to be built in “a traditional rural style, integrating a residential built environment using a variety of type, form and scale” finished in “a mixture of natural stone and render with a natural slate roof finish,” according to the planning application.
“The size of the site allows for the construction of the 173 dwellings giving ample parking and private amenity space. Vehicular access to the dwellings will be provided via the new main entrance and access road within the development site,” the application stated.
