A SUSPECTED petrol bomb attack on an Orange Hall in the south of the Ballymoney area has been described as “intolerant sectarianism.”

Police are appealing for information following the report of the incident on the Duneaney Road, near Glarryford on Monday September 17.

Sergeant Patton said: “At around 7:45pm, the remains of a suspected petrol bomb were found outside the premises. Minor damage was caused to the front door of the property as a result of the incident.“Enquiries are continuing but the incident is being treated as a hate crime.”The Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland has condemned those responsible for the attack.

Their statement read: “Members of Dromore LOL 946 in Glarryford, near Dunloy, were attending their monthly lodge meeting last night (MON) when they discovered the remnants of the petrol bomb, which caused scorch damage to the front door step. It is believed the object was thrown at the Duneaney Road hall over the course of the past week.

“This is a deeply disturbing incident which had the potential to destroy a valued community hub and symbolic cultural building. It is only as a consequence of the slapdash actions of those responsible that we are not dealing with a much more serious occurrence.

“This is sadly yet another example of the intolerant sectarianism displayed by a minority who continue to manifest their hatred towards the Orange Institution, by attacking our properties on a regular basis.”

The Glarryford incident is the seventh reported attack on Orange property so far this year.

The spokesman added: “The mindless idiots responsible offer nothing to society – only heartache and division. Their senseless actions must be universally condemned.”

The Orange Institution urged anyone with information in relation to the Glarryford attack to contact police immediately.

TUV leader Jim Allister also slammed the attack saying: "Another day, another attack on an Orange Hall. The latest attack on an Orange Hall in North Antrim, this time at Duneany Road, Glarryford, is a further manifestation of the irrepressible hatred of all things British by republican elements.

"Not satisfied with its relentless campaign against the Orange Hall in Rasharkin, these perpetrators are extending their hate-filled attacks into Glarryford and beyond.

"The fact that there have been so few arrests emboldens them in their aggression. It is time the PSNI got a handle on this long-running war on Orangeism."

Police are appealing to anyone with any information in relation to this incident to contact them on 101 quoting reference number 178 18/9/18. Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
