NEW Ballymena United signing Reece Glendinning injured an ankle at the weekend - but it is not as bad as first thought, writes Shaun O'Neill.
Glendinning was playing in the pre-season friendly against Carrick Rangers.
United manager David Jeffrey told Guardian Sport the injury happened when Glendinning stumbled on an uneven part of the pitch.
"It was still swollen, but it looks as though it was not as bad as we were fearing," outlined Jeffrey.
Ballymena beat Carrick 2-1, with goals from and Fra Noloan and Adam Lecky.
Meanwhile, tonight (Tuesday) United make the trip to Dixon Park to play Ballyclare Comrades in a pre-season game.
The last time the sides met was in a pre-season friendly game, also at Dixon Park, in July 2015.
The game ended with a draw, the home side taking a 2-0 lead before goals from Matthew Tipton in the 82nd minute and David Cushley with the last kick of the game to secure a draw.
And this Saturday United make the trip to Limavady Showgrounds to play Limavady United.
Boss Jeffrey is pleased at the way things are shaping up in his new-look Sky Blue squad.
He has made quite a few new signings - and they are all being put through their paces by Jeffrey and co.
Jeffrey speaks very highly of Julie Alexander, the club's new strength and conditioning coach.
United will have to play half a dozen home games away at the start of the season due to ongoing work on the main arena at the Showgrounds.
Jefffrey said they accept this - with the thought of a the finished product - a first class pitch at the end of it all - keeping them going.
"Playing our first handful of games away will be a tall order, but we are looking on it as a challenge - a challenge we certainly will be up for," concluded Jeffrey.
* In their pre-season friendlies to date, Ballymena United have won 1-0 at Harland & Wolff Welders, 2-0 at Lisburn Distillery, 3-0 at Knockbreda, and 2-1 at Carrick Rangers, with 7 different goal scorers between the 4 games!
