Jennings decides to skip Ulster thumbnail

GARRY Jennings has taken the surprise decision to miss the Ulster Rally, despite being approached by two teams to drive an R5 car.
The Tarmac Champion from 2013 turned down the chance to be reunited with Spencer Sport's Mitsubishi Mirage having driven it on the same event last year. Jennings also had the option of tackling the sealed surface meeting in a Dom Buckley-prepared Ford Fiesta.
Both cars are right-hand-drive meaning Jennings would compete under the rally's national banner because neither are homologated.
Jennings has previously expressed doubts about using a left-hand-drive R5 on safety grounds, saying he wouldn't feel comfortable.
The problem as it currently stands is that only left-drive R5s are homologated and therefore eligible to run in the international field.
“It wasn't a difficult decision for me to make if I am being honest," said Jennings. "I said at the beginning of the year the Ulster was always going to be a doubt, especially as I'm unable to compete in the international section with the Mirage. That's not what I want.
