Heavy home defeat for Limavady United thumbnailLimavady Unitedís Andy Devlin in action against Ballymena United in their pre-season friendly on Saturday

LIMAVADY United crashed to their heaviest home defeat for many years as they succumbed to a clinical Ballymena team that showed United the respect of playing the game with a really competitive edge and ruthlessly exploited the chances that their excellent play created.
The Roesiders can point to the fact that they were without their inspirational captain Hugh Carlin, out through injury, and Joe McCready who is reported to have signed for Coleraine.
The game was effectively over within the first ten minutes as United were cut open twice in quick succession to be 2-0 down before they had really started.
Braniff scored first, stroking home McCloskey's through ball in the fourth minute and four minutes later, Jim Ervin dashed into the box to slam the ball home after a fine move. McCloskey then struck the post with an acrobatic scissor kick.
Limavady were getting a football lesson but they did come into the game after that stunning 15 minutes. They had their best spell of the game which resulted in a fine goal in the 23rd minute when Richard King fired home from the edge of the box after McFadden won the ball on the edge of the box. However the margin was restored when Matthew Shevlin turned his marker inside the box and finished inside the box.
