Mull Rovers win cup thumbnailAghanloo’s Robbie Hume in action against Mull Rovers during the Trevor O’Neill Memorial Cup final on Friday night.

Mull Rovers...............1 Aghanloo United................0

YOU could not take the smile off the faces of joint managers J P McQuillian and Gareth Pitts as they watched their Mull Rovers team defeat favourites Aghanloo United in the final of this year's Trevor O'Neill Cup. It was McQuillian who masterminded the downfall of Aghanloo as he set his team out to stop the favourites from playing the attractive football which saw them reach the final scoring 17 goals and conceded none.
The match started off as a very nervy affair for Mull Rovers as within the first 10 minutes unforced errors from the back four were gifting Aghanloo with opportunities to open the scoring.
Rovers were fortunate as Aghanloo's deadly strike force of Robbie Hume and Joe McCready failed to capitalise on these mistakes.
As both teams settle down it was evident that they were cancelling each other out, Rovers central defenders Liam Watson and Stewart McMullan were looking solid but, as mentioned, when you have a duo like Hume and McCready you have to expect that talent like that will provide opportunities. It was McCready who showed his class as he collected the ball 30 yards from goal, he beat one defender and unleashed a strike for goal which for him want high and wide.
