LIMAVADY produced their best performance of the season to easily see off a Slaughtneil team that has already made an impression on Division 3 this season. After beating Glack last week, the Robert Emmets travelled in large numbers and high in confidence as they looked to claim another Roe Valley scalp. After falling to Glack in their previous outing, the Wolfhounds took to the field in a more determined and focused mindset and blew their opponents away in a blistering opening quarter.
Lead by Mark McGroraty from half forward and with Cormac Quigley and Ruairi Hasson winning every ball that was coming their way, the homeside built up a commanding 1-11 to 0-02 half time lead. Ruairi Hasson had a fine finish to the net on 6 minutes after being put clear by Quigley.
The defence was also sticking to their task by restricting the visitors to just two scores from placed balls.
This pattern of play continued in the second half as the Slaughtneil defence were unable to handle the pace and movement of McGroraty, Hasson and Quigley. This holy trinity accounted for 2-15 out the 2-16 Limavady total. The other point coming from half back Kieran McGlinchey late in the first half.
It was McGroraty who claimed the second goal on 51 minutes when his initial shot at goal had been partially blocked by a Slaughtneil defender and when given the second chance, the speedster lashed the ball high into the visitors' net.
