LAST Wednesday night in Dungiven, the Limavady Wolfhounds Senior team got their league campaign off to a winning start after over coming Dungiven 3rds on a 0-16 to 0-09 scoreline. After a nip 'n tuck first half, Limavady led 0-07 to 0-05 ahead at the break. An experienced St Canice's came out all guns blazing at the start of the second half but failed to make their good start show on the scoreboard. The Wolfhounds weathered the storm and a very productive final 20 minutes saw them record a fine nine point victory.
Limavady Team: Dean McInnes, Jamie McLaughlin, Harry McLaughlin, Michael McVeigh, Callum Carton, Eoighan Rogers, Conor Boyd, Aaron McGregor, Sheagh McLaughlin (0-02), Conor McGregor, Kieran McGlinchey, Conor Kelly, Oisin Hasson (0-02), Eugene O'Kane 0-07 (0-04Frees), Dessie Loughery (0-03). In their second game of the week, Limavady came out on top at Scroggy Road in a game that never had the small attendance on the edge of their seats.
The Wolfhounds found it tough going in the first half with playing into a packed Magherafelt defence that was aided by a strong first half wind. Cormac Quigley struck the half's only goal in the fifth minute. He also added a point from play as did Oisin Hasson and Sheagh McLaughlin.
Eugene O'Kane added another from a free as Limavady went in at the break leading 1-05 to 0-02.
Magherafelt continued to put up a stubborn fight in the second half, but after kicking the first two scores of the half, faded away as the Wolfhounds finished strongly as Cormac Quigley claimed another two goals for a 3-12 to 0-05 victory.
