Cricket Club ‘bowled over’ by blitz response thumbnailPupils from the Roe Valley Integrated Primary School and Gaelscoil Léim an Mhadaidh pictured at the cricket blitz held at the Roe Valley Leisure Centre this week. They are Anna, Caolan, Conor and Kirsten.

PRIMARY 6 and 7 children from the Limavady area gathered at the Roe Valley Leisure Centre last Wednesday for a Cricket Blitz organised by Limavady Cricket & Rugby Football Club (LC&R FC) in association with Sports NI and Cricket Ireland.
Cricket is on the decline throughout the country and Limavady Cricket Club have not had a youth team for the past 10 years. In a bid to address this, representatives from the local cricket club have been visiting local schools to encourage kids to engage in the sport with the hope of forming an Under 11 team.
Sports NI recently awarded a grant of £5,000 to LC&R FC and for the past three months, local coaches have been visiting schools in the area to get both boys and girls interested in the sport.
Last Wednesday's event was the finale to months of training when the pupils from Drumachose, Central, Gaelscoil Léim an Mhadaidh, Rossmar, Ballykelly, Drumrane, Termoncanice and Roe Valley Integrated Primary Schools came together to try out their new found skills.
