Fourteen man Slaughtneil just come up short thumbnailSlaughtneil captain Francis McEldowney makes a run for it from this Dr Crokes attack.

DR. CROKE'S KERRY................1-9 SLAUGHTNEIL.......................1-7

THERE is always a cuteness in Kerry teams, some might call it cynicism but the mixture went a long way to bringing the Killarney team a second All Ireland title 25 years after their first. It was tough on the Slaughtneil team to lose a second All Ireland final in two years but the dismissal of midfielder Padraig Cassidy late in the first half did not help their cause.
Cassidy had been playing well and had scored a superb goal. Then the incident that saw him sent off turned the course of the game.
He was heavily fouled along the sideline and as he was about to get up, he was slapped on top of the head by Kieran O'Leary. Unfortunately Cassidy reacted and O'Leary went down like a lead balloon. It happened under the eye of a linesman and it was inevitable that young Cassidy got sent off.
There were a few things that Slaughtneil would not have been happy about, the persistent fouling of Dr. Crokes on the Slaughtneil defenders coming out was not punished, nor was a frontal charge on Patsy Bradley that left him with a nasty facial injury in the first half.
