Derry shock leaders Kildare in high scoring encounter thumbnailNial McLaughlin in action in the Derry v Kildare game on Sunday.

Derry...............1-18 Kildare...........1-17

IT looks more like a hurling score line but what a valuable win for Derry in this very tight division. A range of wonderful points from James Kielt and a last minute goal from Emmett McGuckin were the winning factors for Derry in a highly entertaining game where defences on both sides leaked badly at times.
This was Derry's first league win in eight games going back to last year but they did draw three of them, including in their last home game against Clare.
It was quite a comeback by Derry after their collapse against Meath when they were out scored by 3-11 to 0-3 in a one sided second half.
Then, Kildare had hammered Meath in the opening round so on the basis of that, Derry looked to be really up against it on Sunday.
When many games were played in poor ground conditions, Celtic Park was in pretty good shape. A stiff wind blew from end to end and it was Derry who made most use of the elements as James Kielt gave an exhibition of long range points from frees and open play to stun the fancied Kildare team who probably lost the game with four bad wides at the end of the first half.
