Tyrone make it six in a row with comfortable victory thumbnailMark Lynch of Derry and Cathal McCarron of Tyrone battle for possession during Saturday’s Dr McKenna Cup final game at Pairc Esler in Newry.

TYRONE.................................2-13 DERRY......................................1-7

WHEN the two team line outs were put on paper it was obvious that Derry had it all to do.
Tyrone, going for six McKenna cups in a row, looked much stronger than a Derry team whose defence was more or less made up of debutants.
It was the sixth time that Derry manager Damian Barton had faced Tyrone in his second season, and all six results have gone the way of the dominant neighbours. While Tyrone make a habit of winning this competition most other counties are happy to unearth a new player or two so Derry will not be overly disappointed by the defeat.
If there was disappointment, it was the lack of scoring power shown by the attack which looked to be the strongest department of this Derry team. Five of their seven points came from frees,
Derry competed well in the early stages until Colm Cavanagh bagged the first Tyrone goal after eighteen minutes to make the score 1-2 to 0-2. It was the beginning of the end for the challengers, as Mickey Harte's team took control to go in at half time with a 1-7 to 0-2 lead.
