Promotion favourites Coleraine prove too good for Limavady thumbnailLimavady had as much possession as their hosts during Saturday’s Kurki Championship Section Two game, however they were unable to make the score board talk and Coleraine where clear winners.

COLERAINE justified their tag as favourites for promotion as they saw off neighbours and promotion contenders Limavady, at a very wet Mount Sandal last Saturday afternoon. While the score-line may suggest another routine win for the Bannsiders, it was indeed anything but.
Limavady had as much possession and territory as their hosts, but time and time again their set pace let them down, particularly their own lineouts.
With the recent unseasonable mild weather, the large crowd in attendance were expecting an entering game of running rugby as both sides like to keep ball in hand at every opportunity, but with less than half an hour to kick off the heavens opened and the rain battered the players and the brave souls in attendance all day long.
After drawing with CIYMS in their big top of the table clash two weeks ago, Coleraine were eager to stamp their authority in this one and get back to winning ways, and what a start they made. Attacking the Roesiders with power and pace from the off the homeside got the opening score on nine minutes. Some quick slick passing through the backs saw winger Clarke break the cover to score in the corner.
Coleraine continued to dominate in the opening quarter of the game but could only add a penalty to their earlier try for an 8-0 lead. The remainder of the half belonged to the visitors, but whatever Limavady threw at their hosts, they just couldn't break down a water tight home defence. Despite being kept pinned back on their own half for much of the second half Coleraine still went in at the break eight points to the good.
As the second half kicked off the rain came down heavier. Both sides were guilty of handling errors and the game became very scrappy as both teams were unable to build any phases of play.
