Springwell Running Club hosts annual awards night thumbnailGemma McDonald receives the Female Athlete of the Year award from Springwell Club President Jim Reid MBE.

ON Saturday December 3, following a day of parkruns and cross country running, Springwell Running Club held its annual awards presentation which was hosted by Club President Jim Reid MBE and took place at the Drummond Hotel in Ballykelly.
The large number of awards presented on the night ranged from those awarded on performance to endeavour and contribution to the club.
The Male and Female Challenge Cups are awarded based on an athlete's performances of the 5K,10k, 10 mile and half marathon distances. All results are age group normalised so that all athletes can compete for this award.
Karen McLaughlin who, amongst her performances in 2016 had age group wins in the Nissan 5 mile in Coleraine, the Dervock and Omagh half marathons, the Acorns 5K, the Purple Ladies 5K and the Maghera 10K, was presented with the Female Challenge Cup, while Jim Breen, with age group wins in the Fairhill 5 m, the Termoneeny 10K and the Maghera 10K, won the Male award.
The Newcomer awards for each area went to Andrew Wilmot for Ballymoney; Julie Millican for Coleraine and Monica McCarthy for Limavady.
These athletes have achieved some great results throughout 2016 and no doubt their development will continue throughout 2017.
The Tenderfoot award was presented to Sarah Dickinson whose progress throughout the year has produced some excellent results for the newcomer.
