Roesiders announce January friendlies

AS PART of the celebrations of Limavady United's 50th Anniversary of playing at the Showgrounds, the club has arranged two high profile friendlies in the incoming weeks. On Wednesday, January 18 a Derry City side will visit Rathmore Road, and the following Tuesday, January 24 United will host Finn Harps of the League of Ireland First Division. Both clubs are starting their pre-season preparations and so it is expected that they will bring strong sides. The Kick-Off for both games is 7.30pm.
Limavady United have played Finn Harps three times, away in 199-98 and lost 2-1; 1998-99 were they drew and at home in 2000-01 were they also secured a draw. Limavady United have played Derry City 6 times, winning two and losing four. The Roesiders played Derry City in a friendly in April 1969 losing 5-1, Fitzsimmons grabbing Limavady's goal; another friendly was played in Apirl 1970 with the Rosiders losing 6-0. The two sides met in the Intermediate Cup Quarter-Final in February 1984 with Limavady United claiming a 1-0 win, Davies getting the winner; United claimed another victory in a friendly in 1991, Painter, Nicholl giving them a 2-1 win; Limavady fell to City 6-0 in a friendly in July 1994 and 4-0 in the Irish News Cup Quarter-Final in March 1999.
