Golden St Mary’s through to another MacRory Cup final

Thursday, 8 March 2018

St. Mary's Magherafelt.......6-7 St. Patrick's Maghera............1-13

FOR the second year in succession, MacRory Cup favourites St Patrick's Maghera's defensive weaknesses proved fatal. The concession of six goals to local rivals and holders St Mary's Magherafelt was the decisive factor in front of 3271 spectators at Bellaghy.
The holders, who went into this game as huge underdogs, are now through to the final against St. Ronan's of Lurgan.
When St Mary's met St. Patrick's in the McCormick Cup, they fielded a watered team and got hammered. This time they had a well prepared ambush against a St Patrick's team sporting nine of last year's Derry minor panel.
Goals proved the key as the reigning champions tore up the form book to knock out competition favourites and neighbours Maghera at a packed Bellaghy on Sunday.
