SATURDAY afternoon saw virtually its entire football schedule wiped out but Magherafelt Sky Blues Reserves found their derby fixture against local rivals Magherafelt Reds at Meadowbank 3G getting the go ahead after the pitch was declared fit to play.
As befits these derby clashes, spectators were once again treated to a feast of goals but unlike usual cases where there is not too much between the teams, this outing saw Rafferty's Blues on fire, romping to a most emphatic eight one victory.
On a bitterly cold afternoon it was the Blues who came out of the traps quickly, going ahead after five minutes when a stinging free kick could only be parried out by the home keeper and Tony Molloy pounced quickly to score.
In an evenly contested battle, the Reds levelled midway through the half but within ten minutes of the half remaining, it was the Blues who restored their advantage when a delightful shot across goal by Pulko found the net.
