A COUNCILLOR has voiced concern over the cost of the Dungiven sports centre scheme after it emerged that more than 500,000 is being sought to finance the project. In a report to Causeway Coast and Glens Council's Corporate Policy Committee, members were told that the net cost for the 30-year loan to the council would be 521,728.
Chief Finance Officer David Wright asked the local authority to approve the loan, prior to finance being sought at the best interest rate.
DUP Councillor George Duddy said he had recently visited the Dungiven sports centre which he described as "an outstanding building which is well used."
He added: "I believed that council were putting 300,000 into this scheme but the proposed loan is for 522,000 - why are the figures different?"
Mr Wright said he would find out and report back to Cllr Duddy. Following a request for clarification from Sinn Fein Councillor Cara McShane, the officer said he would circulate the information to all members before the next full council meeting.
