‘Sport just doesn’t get better than this’

A Limavady man has just returned to the borough after competing in the World Masters Games, the largest participatory multi-sports event in the world. David Blair, who has been a member of the North West Orienteering Club for 40 years, was persuaded to enter the event by his sister Ruth who had previously competed at three World Masters Games - twice in Sydney and also in Edmonton, Canada.
Held every four years, it was the turn of Auckland, New Zealand to stage the 2017 event which represents the pinnacle of sporting competition for master competitors around the globe. The Games also doubled as world championships for weightlifting and orienteering.
Said David: "I was first introduced to orienteering in 1977 when I went up to Cam Forest to collect my sister, Shirley, after a competition and watched orienteers running down a forest track and through a stream, despite there being a perfectly usable bridge 20 metres upstream!
