The Vale Centre opens new fitness suite thumbnailDouble Olympic gold medalist Jason Smyth opened the new fitness suite at the Vale Centre in Greysteel last week.

FITNESS was on the agenda at the Vale Centre this week at the official opening of the brand new state of the art fitness suite.
Special guests in attendance included local Double Paralympic Gold Medallist sprinter Jason Smyth and the Minister for Culture, Arts and Leisure Gregory Campbell.
The event showcased the wonderful new facilities on offer at the centre and demonstrated another step forward for Greysteel Community Enterprises in the development of the Vale Centre. Chairman of GCE Hugh Nicholl spoke enthusiastically of the project. He stated: "The creation of these new facilities have provided the community with an arena where they can improve their health and wellbeing and achieve their fitness goals. We aim to make this centre a hub for physical activity within our local area and the surrounding communities."
The project has received funding from Sport Northern Ireland, the Foundation for Sport and Arts, The Foyle Trust and Invest Northern Ireland. Speaking on the new facility, Eamonn McCartan, Chief Executive of Sport Northern Ireland commented: "As the lead agency for developing sport in Northern Ireland, Sport Northern Ireland is committed to providing opportunities for people of all abilities to participate in sport. This state of the art fitness suite will facilitate the development of sporting opportunities for people with disabilities in the local area and surrounding communities and Sport Northern Ireland is delighted to have supported this excellent project."
The equipment in the fitness suite is supplied by Cybex and includes the new 'Arc Trainer' which is exclusive to the Cybex range. A number of machines are also Inclusive Fitness Initiative (IFI) equipment, making it easily accessible for those with a disability. In addition to the new fitness suite the facility offers a multi purpose area, changing facilities, a physiotherapy room, office suites and a meeting room.
