‘Manifesto promise delivered for Greysteel’: McElhinney thumbnailThis week the Mayor of Limavady Councillor Brenda Chivers was delighted to open a new play area in Greysteel. The new facility, located at the Greysteel Community Association, has made an amazing difference to the area.

SINN Féin councillor John Felix Mc Elhinney said he was delighted that Limavady Borough Council has finally completed development of a new play area in his parish of Greysteel.
The new facility was officially opened by his party colleague Mayor Brenda Chivers last Wednesday.
Cllr Mc Elhinney said: "This is the first sight of swings in Greysteel and the children are delighted with the new facility. Building play parks in rural areas of the borough was a key commitment in Sinn Féin's 2005 local government election manifesto.
“I am delighted with the progress of this campaign since Sinn Féin launched the Roe Valley Parents for Play Areas project in June 2003.
“To date, we have delivered new play areas at the Curragh Road in Dungiven and Seacoast Road, Magilligan.
"In June 2003, Sinn Féin arranged for three young mothers to address Limavady Borough Council to make the case for play facilities for the children of their area, Geraldine Sweeney from Dungiven, Marie McCormack from Magilligan and Louise Brolly from Greysteel. Geraldine exposed the scandal that play equipment valued at approximately £11,000, donated to the people of Dungiven by the Glenshane Community, had been collecting dust for over four years. Marie McCormack produced a petition signed by 207 residents from the Drumavally and Carriage Court area of Magilligan to the Council.
"Dungiven, Greysteel and Magilligan have been neglected for too long in terms of recreation facilities for our children. The successful delivery of this manifesto commitment is a tremendous morale boost for these areas. We have made much progress, but we still have work to do for the communities of Greysteel, Magilligan and Dungiven," concluded Cllr Mc Elhinney.
