Rankin welcomes further funding for Back Burn Path thumbnailAlderman Jack Rankin at the Back Burn path play area in Limavady.

LIMAVADY Borough Council has secured funding to protect a play park situated at Alexander Road. Further funding will be used to improve the entrance to Back Burn Path via the Main Street. Welcoming the news, Alderman Jack Rankin said: "Over the past few years, since the new children's play park at Alexander Road has been erected, it has continually been vandalised and Limavady Borough Council have already spent thousands of pounds repairing the damage.
“It is sad that certain individuals are still wanting to engage in vandalism.
“The park was also used by certain individuals as a venue for drinking alcohol which, I would also like to point out, has been causing annoyance to the residents of Alexander Road.
“I am know able to report that council has been able to acquire funding which will enable it to erect an eight foot high fence around the play park and also for a set of lockable gates.
“As well as this, funding has been secured to improve the entrance to the Back Burn Path via Main Street. Unfortunately, this entrance to the path has also been the subject of vandalism and the spraying of graffiti which gave this entrance a poor appearance.
“We have a beautiful park which many people enjoy, especially children so let's show respect for this park," he concluded.
